Plating a dish is a process, at least for me it is.
I can go into a day with a certain idea of how I want a plate to look, but the experience itself dictates the end result..

Each step is a sensory input, be it slicing carrots or reducing a sauce, and the aromas and textures and colors inspire the creative brain.
Today, I’ve learned that sketching is quite similar.
Maybe I use my sketching process to plate.. Maybe I used my plating process to finish my sketch..

What I do know is that this stuff is way more interconnected than we consciously acknowledge on a daily basis.
The interweaving of productivity affects us on all levels, and it’s amusing to step back and see the pattern.
I wish I had step-by-step pictures of building a plate, to run the two side-by-side.
As each element builds, the next doesn’t seem as daunting.
Does it end up perfect?
Depends on your end goal.
But that’s the best part.
Every time you look at it there is something small you want to change.
To tweak. To improve.

So you keep tweaking.
Because you will always own the finished product, and every step towards it…

Wow! You just blow my mind! What an interesting comparison!

Thanks Mum 🙂 Her one thumb is jacked, but with the papyrus it would mess it all up to fix it, so it will stay that way. I got to do some interesting shading exercises on this one I haven’t previously experimented with, the use of negative space to create texture.. which, ironically, is something we do in plating.
